ABSENCES AND LEAVES
Policy
ABSENCES
All employees of Navarro College are expected to be on duty each work day unless the employee is ill or on an excused leave of absence. Regular attendance is an essential condition of employment, and if an employee fails to maintain an acceptable record of attendance, that employee may be discharged.
If an employee is absent from duty without leave, that employee shall forfeit compensation for times of absences.
If an employee is absent for three consecutive days without notifying his/her supervisor, the employee will be considered abandoning their position and therefore, resigning their employment with the college.
The District President has the right to allow administrators to adjust their work schedules due to extraordinary job demands.

VACATION LEAVE
Navarro College offers vacation leave to all classifications of full-time employees with the exception of faculty. Vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 6.67 hours per month during the employees first five consecutive years of full-time employment.
After the fifth anniversary of consecutive full-time employment, vacation leave is accrued at the rate of 10 hours per month. Vacation leave may be taken as it accrues. A maximum of 160 hours of vacation time may be accumulated.
Unused vacation time will be compensated for at the time of termination, retirement, or resignation up to a maximum of 160 hours.
SICK LEAVE
Navarro College offers sick leave to all classifications of employees for absences due to the illness of the employee or their immediate family member. Up to 32 hours of sick leave per year may be taken for personal reasons other than illness. Sick leave is earned at a rate of 8 hours per month worked and may be accumulated to a maximum of 480 hours. Unused sick leave will be compensated at the current hourly rate of pay at time of termination, retirement, or resignation of an employee at a percentage based upon consecutive years of service to the College.

FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE ACT
After five (5) consecutive days of absence for illness of an employee or their immediate family member, Navarro College will require employees who qualify to begin coverage under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). FMLA leave will run concurrent with the usage of accrued leaves.
MILITARY LEAVE
Navarro College will grant military leave in accordance with federal law.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE
Navarro College will grant bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member for up to three (3) days.
EXECUTIVE LEAVE BENEFITS
The District President has the authority to determine the level of leave benefits for executive staff members. Leave benefit for executive staff members shall be articulated in the employment contract.
